The Footy Show (2005.05.19)

2005tfs01

Olivia performed "You're The One That I Want" with Aussie host Sam Newman. Sam isn't a singer but the performance was fun and Olivia enjoyed it.

After the performance Olivia and Sam signed their leather jackets to be auctioned to raise proceeds for Olivia's cancer centre. Olivia also spoke about Kylie Minogue, who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Contrary to press reports at that time Olivia hadn't spoken to Kylie or had lunch with her yet.

Olivia also spoke about her football team Carlton, she'd supported them since childhood even though her family didn't really follow football.

Carols By Candlelight (2000.12.24)

2000cbc01

For the first time Olivia headlined Australian's Carols By Candlelight, an outdoor concert at Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl, held every Christmas Eve. It's also broadcast live on Australian TV and radio and watching it has become a Christmas Eve tradition for most Australians. Organized by the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind (RVIB) it brings together a wealth of Australian talent to perform carols. The 2000 concert was considered one of the best with organizer Cos Cardone commenting: "Securing Olivia has been a long journey....but worth every minute. Her coming home to sing Carols for the first time is a great highlight" The concert also featured co-Olympic performers Tina Arena, Vanessa Amorosi and Julie Anthony.

Olivia opened the concert with Hark The Herald Angels Sing dressed in a lovely gold gown accompanied by a full orchestra. Thanking the audience she said how great it was to be back in her home town of Melbourne. She said hi to her mom watching at home and waved to other members of her family who were actually in the audience. Olivia then introduced the host and personal friend Ray Martin. Ray, commenting on how great Olivia looked, wanted to know what pills she was on. Olivia giggled "I don't think you need them." Olivia returned later to sing Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and then accompanied by Stuart Fraser on guitar, sang the favourite Silent Night. The choir joined in with her for the end chorus - lovely. The outdoor venue meant the sound wasn't perfect but the atmosphere more than made for that. The concert ended with Olivia leading all the performers singing So This Is Christmas, followed by a medley of Christmas carols.

Love Saves The Earth (1991)

1990lste01

Olivia visited Japan in 1991 especially to take part in this 24 hour fundraising concert to help the environment. Olivia has always had a strong following in Japan and the Japanese are always delighted to see her. The audience were a little more subdued than normal possibly because of the windy, wet weather for this outdoor concert. For Olivia's first song, Magic, she sings beneath an umbrella. She uses the umbrella to dance with but by the end of the song the clouds had cleared and the umbrella was discarded.  Proof of her "non superstar" approach to life - Olivia makes sure to pick up the umbrella before she leaves the stage rather than leave it for a stage-hand to clear up!

Olivia clearly cares about the cause, there is total sincerity as she makes a plea to the Japanese audience to all do their bit to save the planet. When asked her advice, it was to educate children how to look after the earth. All the songs (Magic, I Honestly Love You, Over The Rainbow) are sung live except Physical which is mimed - possibly because Olivia runs and dances around the stage despite her long white dress.

Tomorrow Coast To Coast (1981)

1981tctc01

Olivia performs a lovely live rendition of The Promise from her Physical album. The during the interview she talks about the experience of swimming with the dolphins for the video. She describes their sense of humour and intelligence "They're beings not animals at all." The dolphins flirted with her and one tried to push her out into the deep water but she told it to stop and it did!

1981tctc02 1981tctc03

She talks about the gossip that surrounds her regarding male suitors. She only has to be photographed with a male and the press reports that they are going out. She tells the host Tom Snyder "it'll be me and you after this show" Tom replies "You want it, you got it!"

Parkinson (1978.12.02)

parkinson01

Olivia is a guest on Michael Parkinson's 200th show. Michael Parkinson is a respected chat show host in the UK and he's still going strong in 2003.

Olivia is adorable on this and very modest about her recent success in Grease. She's also joined by the Hollywood great Gloria Swanson. Gloria offered Olivia some advice - not to take sugar in her tea and Olivia has been trying to follow this advice ever since.

Parkinson asks Olivia about future movies and whether she's ever been asked to appear nude. Olivia says no as they know she doesn't want to do that. Hustler magazine had recently offered Olivia a million dollars to pose nude but Olivia had turned them down thinking it "vulgar". Gloria is so taken with Olivia that she calls her "so lovely".

Olivia performs her sexy song A little More Love and then Dame Edna Everage is the next guest. Olivia gives Dame Edna an Australian badge with the icon of three ducks going up a wall (?). Olivia cracks up at Dame Edna's humour throughout.

Elton John is the final guest and jokes about his and Olivia's supposed romance. Some bathrooms in New York (called Johns) are labelled Elton for men and Olivia for the women.
